LucyKKG, I assume you know what your husband would like, but just make sure. I absolutely detest French cuffs and cufflinks with anything but formal wear. I would never wear them except when dressed formally, and I tend to get a negative impression when I see other men wearing them with business attire -- it gives an air of pretentiousness, in my opinion. I recognize that's not a universally shared (or rational
) bias; the point is that in my experience, guys either love them or detest them.
As for pens, I remember my wife getting me a really nice pen early on in our marriage (or maybe even when we were dating). It's probably still in a drawer somewhere, along with the pens I got as graduation presents -- I know I never used any of them. She thought it was a
very nice gift (and I hope I acted like it was). I thought it was a complete waste of money. Give me a Sanford Uni-Ball Onyx that I don't care if I lose anyday. Now, she wouldn't even think of getting me a pen, because she knows now I wouldn't want it.
Now, having said all of that, I will admit that the buttons on my navy blazer have the Phi Mu Alpha coat-of-arms on them. You have to look closely to figure out that's what the design is, but I love 'em.
