I was dumfounded when I saw that ritual listed and even e-mailed my nephew who's a TKE. The seller got it from a non-TKE and was not a TKE himself, but had the good sense to limit bids to brothers and said he'd verify the winner was and initiated frater before sending it. That was actually the good side of ebay.

Not to toot my own horn, but I found a TKE badge with guard a few weeks ago in a local thrift shop and put it on ebay. A brother from that chapter (GWU) e-mailed me, so I quickly added a 'buy it now' and told him. He snapped it up and will get it back to it's original owner. I didn't make a cent, and don't care that I didn't. The important point is that it's going home.

I collect other pins and badges and will snipe a high bidder unless his id indicates he's a brother of that fraternity. Otherwise, I'll snag it. I'm making a collection to give to my chapter.

Just one other thing --- people can get ebay-stupid. I watched a 1929 Paedagogus (pledge manual) go for $152.50 last week. I found a 1931 edition at an online used bookshop last night for $25.00. Yes. I bought it. The point being, there's more out there than just ebay.

Brothers all.
