When I was just a young girl,
I dreamed of wearing 20 Pearls
I envied the ladies of pink and green
Especially the ones who worked,
Not just so they could be seen
A young lady from St. Louis started it all
Yes, Ethel Hedgeman Lyle did in Miner Hall
Incorporated in 1913, these ladies blazed a trail
No one could foresee
From the founding of the Mississippi Health Project,
A partnership in math and science they would share,
As well as donate money to Africare
Because high scholastic achievement is a part of her formation,
This started the Educational Advancement Foundation
A sisterhood that never fails, to blaze new trails
From education, the black family, health, economics and the arts,
Women from all walks of life, work to do their part
To maintain high moral standards with
Girls and women who share sisterly relationships,
To achieve Ms. McKinzie's goals of
Economics, Sisterhood and Partnerships
So now it is the time, for these ladies to
Celebrate service to all mankind,
A lifetime of blood, sweat and tears
I wish Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority Inc. the best,
as they celebrate 100 years.
Beautiful! Thank you! *HUGS*
