I ask that who ever will pray for my family as we celebrate Denita's life and cope with her untimely death one year later...

I just found out that my cousin who was in graduate school at NC Central University in Durham, NC was found dead on campus today...so far all we know is that there were reports of shots being fired on campus at 8am and her body was found by a maintenance crew outside at the bottom of some stairs at 10am...Denita was only 25, newly engaged, and a beautiful person inside and out...my family is in complete shock and disbelief..she's the oldest of 3 siblings who are very close in a very close knit family..I don't even know how to tell my daughter...please pray for my family in this dark hour...

Denita interned for a local paper so there is an article on www.Charlotte.com about this already...hopefully someone will be held accountable for this senseless loss...

My family laid to rest my cousin, Denita Monique Smith yesterday...I want to thank everyone who offered their prayers and condolences during this very difficult time...for those of you who are not in the NC area, a woman has been charged with her death, so hopefully my family will have some type of closure soon...I didn't even mention this in my first post, but Denita was a newly initiated member of Alpha Kappa Alpha...she crossed on December 3, 2006...AKA was something she really wanted (in spite of my ribbing) and I'm thankful she got it..there were at least a couple thousand people at her service and person after person spoke of her kindness and big smile...her list of acomplishments academically and in the community are too numerous to mention...she was an all around good person who touched alot of lives and who will be greatly missed...
