Pref night

I was trying to be authentic with the delay! After house tours we had a day-long break before preference round. Talk about agony! We all wanted to get on with the show. Finally, pref night arrived. I put on my favorite black cocktail dress, wore my hair curly, and luckily had the good sense to put my heels in a big purse and wear Rainbows to meet my Rho Chi group.

I would be attending Mulberry and Gucci for prefs. I was relieved that I would not be going back to kate spade because I couldn’t imagine acting interested during such a long party. (I’m terrible at being fake.) I had a ghost round at first, so I grabbed a sweet tea and sat with some of the other PNMs before we made our way to the first house.

I arrived at Mulberry and was greeted by the girl I met on the first day with whom I had much in common. I found this to be very creepy. Why couldn’t I talk to another sister, I wondered. Her rush crush was just a bit too much for me. I felt awful because she made it explicitly clear that she would be devastated if I didn’t go Mulberry and all the while I was trying not to blatantly reject her sorority. I nodded, smiled, and spent a great deal of the time with cake in my mouth to minimize saying anything. The whole thing seemed a little desperate and I was thankful when the round was over. It was clear that Mulberry was not the house for me.

Ironically, what had creeped me out at Mulberry felt much better at Gucci. The girl that I met on the first day came out to retrieve me and I felt very much at ease. We went up to her room and were joined by her Big. I was very open about the fact that I had loved Gucci since day one, despite hoping that they would suck so I could cut them along with Fendi. The three of us had a nice conversation, but it wasn't serious like most pref conversations are. It just felt right at Gucci. After that, they ushered me into the chapter room where they had a little ceremony which was very nice. As I left Gucci, I knew I didn't want to go anywhere else on bid day.

I was too chicken to suicide since our Panhel had made a huge deal about maximizing our lists. I ranked my houses 1. Gucci 2. Mulberry even though I knew I would not accept a bid from Mulberry. On my way out, I ran into Babs. She revealed that she had suicided Gucci, despite having attended three parties. We walked back to our dorms wondering what bid day would bring.
