hey Sorors I am still trying to read through all 15 or so pages of this thread but here is a poem I wrote during my process....
A DELTA’S KWANZAA
It is new to me
But a celebrated tradition for many others.
It is the celebration of LIFE on the soils of Mother Africa,
It is the celebration of LIFE on the soils that which our ancestors once walked,
It is the celebration of the MUSTARD SEEDS that holds faith for us in our futures.
We light our candles
And smell its scent as it burns
A scent that will disappear
But a flame that is forever….ENDLESS.
We move our bodies gracefully to the music for this day
But we move with the power, the spirit, the energy,
And the silent emotion of a modern praise dance.
We drink of the water that provides all living things life
We eat of the harvest that provides us strength
It is then that we come together as One
We come together in Umoja(unity
We come together in IMANI(faith) and KUPENDA (love)
For ourselves, for our teachers, for our people
But mostly for the victory of our struggle!
