The sororities have COB to fill any extra openings they have after formal recruitment. So the number of women each sorority will take during COB varies. I personally joined my sorority through spring COB.

The structure of COB varies by school, so I agree that you should call the Greek Lie Office there and ask how it is set up. Some schools require that girls sign up with the office to attend COB events, while at others, sororities advertise their events publicly and anyone can come.

COB is generally more relaxed than formal recruitment. Every sorority conducts it differently and will have different activities for their events. For example, one sorority might have an ice skating night, while another might have an ice cream social. Some might allow all the girls to attend every COB event they're holding, while others might require you to be invited to attend more of their events. It just depends.

As far as recommendations, I'm not familar with COB in the south. But I've never really heard of girls securing recs for COB, but if there is a sorority alumna who knows you well and will submit one for you, I'm sure it can't hurt.
