It's not necessarily about image. It's about their sisters' safety. When my friend was pledging Phi Mu, she told me that her chapter had a rule that they weren't allowed on the second floor of fraternity houses or anywhere else in the house that wasn't a "common" area to prevent any chance of date rape or of girls feeling pressured to do things that they didn't want to do with guys.
