It depends how brutal this school is to juniors, and how competitive this chapter is. Remember that your friends can't guarantee you a bid. You need to stay open minded about all chapters. If you are transferring after a year and a half, and there are chapters participating in informal recruitment, definitely check them out. Don't be determined to pledge in the fall (if you are so lucky) just because the NM period is more fun then.
