My only advice would be: Be sure you really want a tattoo before you do it. I was in school in the early '90s and a ton of my friends got tats. Now, ten years later, many are wishing they didn't.

I know I sound motherly, just be sure it is something that you want with you for a long, long time to come. Also, if you do decide to get one, really check the cleanliness of the artist and his/her studio. If you feel--even remotely--that it might not be clean and sterile, find another place. You cannot be too careful these days.

But, if, after considering all these things, if you still want to do it, I see no reason not to go for it. I do agree, as mentioned above, that putting it in a discreet location would be a good idea. Many people have negative opinions of people with tats, esp. women. Just something else to think about.
