Lightbulb National Black HIV/Aids Awareness Day

February 7, 2002 will be the second annual observance of National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day, a nationwide community mobilization effort to emphasize the HIV/AIDS "State of Emergency" among African Americans and to encourage individuals to be tested for HIV/AIDS.

AIDS is the number one killer of African American men and women ages 25-44. National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day will bring much needed attention to the disproportionate and rapidly increasing rate of HIV/AIDS infection among African American and galvanize our communities to take action.

National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day will be observed nationwide in 14 target cities: Atlanta, Baltimore, Chicago, Dallas, Detroit, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New Orleans, New York, Oakland, Philadelphia, Raleigh-Durham, and Washington DC. Schedule activities include press conference, free HIV/AIDS testing , marches, rallies and community forums all designed to bring attention to the epidemic among African Americans and to stop the spread of HIV/AIDS in America.
