I rented the first season of the show and saw about 2/3 of the eps within a 24 hour period. Not bad, huh?
Well, I'll say that while the show in and of itself isn't a bad show by a long shot, I did find it a bit meloncholy in that Chris always got the short end of the stick by the end of the ep, perhaps hence the title.
FWIW, EHC reminds me of the numerous Charlie Brown comic strips I read as a kid, in that even when Charlie Brown wins, he loses. It's almost as if Chris and Charlie Brown have that same magnetic attraction to the agony of defeat (that or they were separated at birth).
I think the late Charles Schulz said it best: "Happiness doesn't create humor. Sadness makes humor". Perhaps this is what gives EHC its unique flavor as far as comedy is concerned.
One thing I do like about the show was that it portrayed a poor kid growing up in the 80s with his family struggling to make it. OTOH, that may also be the very thing I don't like about the show:
'Cause it reminds me too much of my life growing up poor in the 80s.
And as an adult, the last thing you wanna see on TV is another you, particularly when you are in an unrefined state of being (read: immature and socially and emotionally un- or underdeveloped).
But nonetheless EHC is overall a good entertaining show. I hope its run is a long run (a few more seasons).
