I don't know if I would go so far as to say that it's told from Michael Myers' viewpoint; however you certainly gain an appreciation for why he turns out the way that he does. While evidence is shown that he already is a "little off" --
i.e. before he moves on to murdering humans, he tortures and kills animals (the psychiatrist is shown photos of animals, and it's implied that he killed his pet rat(s) off screen), you also see that this is exacerbated by the fact that he grows up in an abusive, horrible household. I didn't see the very first Halloween movie, so I don't know how much they get into the details of his homelife in the original. However, from the depiction of his homelife in the Zombie rendering, you feel a bit sorry for him.
