I've been both. I was part of a local through most of my collegiate years that went "national" the second semester of my senior year--so I feel like I've had the best of both worlds. I AId a year and a half after I graduated. I would guess that while you're in college, you don't much think about other chapters other than the occasional road trip, convention or event, but then as an alumna you might wish there were more sisters spread far and wide.
Its too bad there isn't an alumnae association for local sorority members--kind of like the NPC alumnae panhellenics in cities across the country.
