Firstly, I am very sorry to hear that your friend was in an accident.

I echo the OtterXO in saying that it's lucky that she didn't get hurt or hurt someone else.
If the police have official blood results showing a high BAC, then she'll be hard pressed to explain that away. Depending on her weight, 5-6 drinks can do it. My understanding is that GHB can amplify the "blackout" effect of alcohol...but you're telling us that she was reported to have a BAC of .27. As far as I know, GHB doesn't increase BAC, alcohol does. (Anybody know?)
Honestly though? Did she really only have two? I've heard lots of people who drink and drive say that they "only had two drinks". Did they or she drink *before* going out?
Perhaps your friend was drugged and *then* given extra alcohol. However, you report that her boyfriend was with her and he did not and would not drug her. If they were supposedly celebrating an anniversary, I would assume he was with her the whole time. Wouldn't he have noticed that someone was handing her these extra drinks? Why would someone drug her while she was obviously sitting with another man?
Even though they were celebrating an anniversary, you report that she, "...got in her car and peeled out (without him)...". That sounds curious to me. Did they have a fight? Did she possibly go to another bar to blow off steam after she sped away?
She got the alcohol in her system somehow, either before boyfriend, with boyfriend, or after boyfriend. If he can testify that she only had two drinks, that's fine; but he wasn't with her after she "peeled away", right? If she only had a few sips and was "fine" when she sped off, it doesn't seem likely that she went straight home or anything. After all, how did she get so much alcohol in her system and land up in a ditch?
I'm not trying to make this more awkward for you or her.

It just that parts of this story don't make sense to me and it seems like there's more to this story than is being told. These are the questions I would have if I was a lawyer (which I am not).
She could claim that the police had a mix-up with the evidence. However, my mom was a Registered Nurse for the Sheriff's Department and she was constantly having to appear as a witness for the prosecuter in court for DUI cases. She'd have to testify regarding her nursing training, years of experience, ability to draw blood, and the condition of the defendant while she performed the inmate medical screening. The defense is going to have difficulty showing a lack of credibility on the part of whoever did the blood draw. Plus, it doesn't help that they found your friend in a ditch 45 minutes from home. That result goes along with a charge of intoxication (drink--drive--crash).
Like PM_Mama00 said, it may be too late for her to get tested, she might possibly need to quickly call around to get recommendations on who can test for GHB. I thought it might be traceable in hair follicles - I don't know of that's correct.
Your friend will have to be *really* honest with herself and admit it if she did more than just have a couple of drinks with her boyfriend. Otherwise, she'll have to scour her brain for any memory of how and when a drug may have been slipped to her. If that's really what happend, I doubt they'll find the guy; but if they do, I hope they slap the biggest punishment possible on him.
Good luck to you.
