I just happen to be the webmaster of the Texas Tech Alpha Phi site! Here's the deal.
ALPHA PHI is the name of the sorority (technically, we are a "women's fraternity," because at the time Alpha Phi--and many other sororities--were founded, the term "sorority" had not been coined).
So, Alpha Phi is the group.
Ours is one of many chapters of Alpha Phi at universities across the United States and Canada. Each
Alpha Phi chapter has a name.
Our chapter is known as the "Gamma Iota" chapter. Thus, we are, as it says on the website: the Gamma Iota chapter of Alpha Phi at Texas Tech University. Make sense?
