I think you handled that correctly. Try to handle it yourself and if that doesn't work, go to the advisers...that's what they are there for! I'm an adviser for a chapter and a newly elected officer had to have her stomach pumped due to alcohol posioning. Well, she was removed from office (after being asked to resign and not doing so), asked to apologize to the chapter, and then has to also sponsor a campus/greek alcohol awareness event.
