Poplar Forest is open to the public now, too - but it's closer to Lynchburg. It's Jefferson's "summer home" and is an octagon. You can read about

As AlphaGamUGAAlum said, it's really an interesting part of the country. Besides the history and UVA, you have some of the country's finest horse riding at your fingertips. Frankly, I'm jealous!
