Sources say that the Washington, DC club scene is becoming one to watch. Insiders say that Mike "The Press Conference Killer" Tyson is looking to buy a club in the Chocolate City really soon. Apparently Mike has been looking at buildings and is very interested in getting into the club business. Sources also say that Baltimore Raven Ray Lewis and Washington Redskin Lavar Arrington are also looking to build a club. The two athletes are apparently looking to open a club in the Landover, MD area.
There is so much going on in the record industry that I thought I would clear a few things up. Everyone knows about Mariah Carey’s situation with Virgin Records. In the words of N’Sync, Mariah is "Gone," but at least she’s walking away with almost $49 million according to her representatives. Virgin has also dropped their R&B group Ideal. The quartet came on the scene in June of 2000 with their gold-certified self-titled album that featured songs like "Whatever" and "Get Gone." Apparently Virgin has told the guys to do like their song says and "get gone!" Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes protégés Blaque are seeking a new record deal. The group is no longer on Columbia Records despite having a platinum self-titled first album and a hit movie "Bring It On" under their belt. They have an album cut called "Release Me" and apparently Columbia decided to oblige. Reports that Kevon Edmonds signed with Arista Records is false. The singer had reported inked a deal with Arista after RCA s! hut down its black music division, but that is not so. Currently, Kevon does not have a deal, and sources say that his former group After 7 is considering getting back together. Def Jam has just signed 3rd Storee. The group was formerly signed to Tracy Edmond’s Yab Yum label and was distributed through Elektra Records. Look for new music from them this year. Kim Burrell said that rumors of her leaving Tommy Boy Gospel and going to Elektra are not true. Burrell said she is happy at Tommy Boy Gospel and does not know how the rumors of a move to Elektra began. While Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes is still signed to Arista Records, her alter ego N.I.N.A. is signed to Tha Row Records. When working on projects with TLC, the rapper will be known as "Left Eye," as a solo artist she will be known as N.I.N.A.
Eclectic singer Kelis is dropping her next effort "Wanderland" on March 12. The album is already available as an import since the singer has a huge following in the U.K.
