As always, your honesty is refreshing.
To me, it's a question of how well the story is told or how much I already know about the campus, rather than when the story takes place. I'm not interested in reading the statistics of a ping-pong match of a recruitment story, nor do I want to have to keep a score card to remember the chapter code names. But if you are good story teller, I'd read your recruitment story at the University of Alaska from 2007 or from 1927. I don't care.
