A few months ago, VH1 started an online contest for guys who wanted to be on the show. Whoever got the most votes from viewers would make it on to the show in addition to the guys who sent their tapes in.

According to this website there was some controversy because it was alleged that VH1 fixed the votes so that "better looking" contestants made it on to the show instead of the Average Joes that were leading in votes. The Fireman comes to mind.

I haven't really been paying much attention to it, though.
