Tom....your situation with your friend is probably not over. As a cop I am sure you know this, but people who get that serious about suicide usually don't stop (unless they get professional help) until they succeed. I have been exposed to a lot of suicide in my life unfortunately. My grandfather for one tried for two years to kill himself. Every effort was thwarted. First he was trying to gas himself in his car with hose. They ended up taking his car away. Then he kept trying to get a gun and he got caught every time. Then he resorted to pinning a note to his shirt and wandering out into a busy street, trying to get hit by a car. Finally he hanged himself over his bathroom door in his own apartment (a last resort as he was trying to avoid my grandmother being the one to have to find him.) My grandma called my dad first and dad had to cut him down.....something that haunts him to this day and he wasn't even close to his dad. PLEASE follow up and see that your friend gets help....he WILL try again.
