Every Zeta Beta Tau website I've researched (including
Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) has Zeta Beta Tau as being founded December 29, 1898 at City College of New York.
"On December 29, 1898, he [Dr. Richard J. H. Gottheil] formed a Zionist youth society with a group of Jewish students from several New York City universities." This is the closest I've seen to anything about Columbia. And that the professor was a teacher at Columbia. I tried to confirm the founding at the
Zeta Beta Tau HQ website. However, I could not find a history of the fraternity on their site.
In any case, I am more than happy to edit my post.
