Well, it had to be recently enough for colored contacts to be widely available, so that rules out the 70s. (I think colored contacts started publicly in the late 80s or so though...I know I started wearing regular contacts in 1990ish, and if I recall correctly colored lenses were an option then.)
Honestly, I think that tidbit was the detail that surprised me the most...after reading all the SEC rush warnings, nothing anyone could say about rush outfits would surprise me. But, the idea that people might actually change up the color of their eyes from day to day sounded so

to me...that thought never even occurred to me!
