Do you want this to be voice or text messaging?

When I was in Italy, I needed to be kept up to date on a lot that was happening in the states and I'd have people send me text messages to my cell phone (SMP) for free through the cellular provider's webpage.

If you're trying to do a voice call to a land line, then it won't be free. Check out dialpad.com and net2phone.com for their rates. You'll need a fast connection to the net and a mic.

I think you may have a better time finding a really good calling card. I used to buy a million of them before I got free long distance and some of them have great low rates.
