[QUOTE=NUBlue&Blue;1456241]
Here's my experience as an upperclassman pledge--I probably would've ended up in a totally different place if I had gone through rush as a freshman. I was from a really, really small rural town and I knew only one person in a sorority at my school. I regretted not going through rush everyday of my freshman year, but I had made a lot of friends in sororities and got involved in a lot of things, so by the time I went through rush, I had very good friends in a few different houses who were pulling for me. I got cut pretty heavily after the first day, but I had a full schedule for pref and I got my first choice. QUOTE]

NUBlue&Blue, your experience sounds much like mine. I rushed only as a sophomore, after spending my freshman year wishing I had in the first place.
Looking back now, I do not believe I would have been happy in the houses I coveted as a freshman. As a sophomore I felt more mature and more educated when it came to the selection process and what I truly desired in a house. Of course, being at a large Southern school with a competitive rush, several houses made my decision much easier by cutting me simply for being a sophomore. It was still painful and I felt it unfair at the time to be discriminated upon because of my age, but now I feel as though it was a blessing in disguise. I'm in a house where I'm comfortable and the girls liked me for me and didn't hold my age against me.
There were a few sophomores in my pledge class and I felt closer to them during our pledge process then our freshman counterparts. But after initiation and to this day, my closest friends in the house are ages and PCs both older and younger than me. You go through a lot with your PC, which is why so many clsoe friendships develop within that group of girls, but once you are initiated, you are all sisters and that common bond supersedes age, pc, majors, etc.
UGABlonde, I truly hope you decide to rush, you'll find it the experience of a lifetime and the benefits of a sorority are so valuable and lasting. Best of luck to you!
