(With an animal likely to be a pet, I'd say really try to avoid, but if you do hit it, try to find its owners so they might get vet treatment. Sorry for being creepy but that possum haunts me. I know it's ridiculous.)

no its not ridiculous, it's the right thing to do. right after I got my driver's license, I hit a squirrell going down a steep mountain side road by my house... there wasn't anywhere to go... and I remember my mom's words of... if you can't safely swerve... just hit it because its not worth your life. anyway, So I hit this squirrell and it like ricochetted off my tire over the mountain side... i'll never forget watching fly through the air.... eek.
