Here is what I think about your question: In general, it is wrong. Sororities and fraternities are about so much more than partying. However, the people in these organizations are college students and some do like to go out and have fun in popular college ways. Since they are a part of an group, onlookers tend to stereotype or judge the entire group when only a few people make bad decisions.
In reality, these students are not necessarily doing something that is unusual for ANY college student. They study, they go out on the weekends, they date, whatever. But any bad decision or mistake they make reflects on their chapter and will even help to create unfair generalizations about all Greeks everywhere.
With that said, I suggest you pay attention during rush and decide for yourself where you fit best. If you find that a house seems too focused on partying, maybe that isn't the house for you. Good Luck!
