i actually wasn't very impressed by her (she looks a bit too non-indian for my taste), but the entire country is celebrating the fact that she made it to the top 10, because it's the first time in 7 years. we've been having a bit of a dry-spell after the sweeps of the early 90s.
eta: i agree about her evening dress. it's not that attractive. indian style has so much potential for absolutely stunning evening wear (whether western, fusion, or indian) as her opening national dress outfit demonstrated...sigh.
