You are not in a position to "check" anybody else.
If you crossed in the spring and convention is that summer -- GO! Beg, borrow, and befriend sponsors
. You WILL need that reinvigoration and the global context or else you will burn out and get jaded in that first year.
Befriend your brother/sister organization, but don't jock them.
