It talks about women who didn't work once they got married because they had a man to provide for them, and then something happened to their husbands (death or divorce) and they were left without the means to fend for themselves.

There's a term for this situation in workforce development: displaced homemaker. And, there are entire organizations devoted to assisting these women in preparing to enter the workforce. The need grows yearly.
