These allegations might not be true but that's not because they sound outlandish. I've heard of worse things happening to pledges.
You and this "we know" stuff.
The line should technically be drawn before there is anything physical. So if the "we hit them but not THAT hard" line of reasoning is what you're going for, it's not gonna work.
