This may not be a problem in newer chapters. At my alma mater, a private university with competitive sorority recruitment, there are more of our legacies than the quota number. This chapter is 86 years old and the number of PNM legacies is too large to pledge, even if every single one was given a bid. In addition, there are now about 14 of our chapters in the state. Years ago when I was a collegian we might have as many as 20 more legacies than there were places in the pledge class. I cannot imagine how many there are now. Under these circumstances there can be hurt feelings on the part of legacy PNMs. Sometimes legacies are cut with great regret by the chapter. It is strictly a matter of numbers.
