Why I Joined APO: Philanthropy, friends, fun, something to keep me out of trouble
Anything Else: I returned to school in 2005 -- to the University of North Texas. UNT has a much bigger APO chapter than UTA had had (as I believe Theta Tau is not active now) -- but in order to become active they basically told me I had to transfer my membership and essentially "re-pledge" (with their chapter -- not that I would *be* a pledge, but I would be regarded as such for a semester). I'm not sure if that was entirely accurate, but it was what I was told. I opted instead to retain my alum status with Theta Tau and joined a local spirit & service group instead for this 2nd time around in school.

Welcome!
Yes, Theta Tau is inactive, but I think that there is the beginnings of a rechartering effort there (mostly due to glitches in the chapter listing software at the National Website that I think I understand.
As for UNT's policy, I believe that is within the rules, they get to vote on accepting transfers and having a semester of learning about chapter traditions (and getting a chapter Big Brother might be another) I think is acceptable. The chapter I was active in (Kappa @ Carnegie-Mellon) didn't do it.
