- Along with husband Dale, first husband and wife couple to be admitted to the Wisconsin bar
- In 1956, 1st woman and 1st Black Alderman
- 1st woman judge in Milwaukee and 1st Black judge in Wisconsin
- 1978, because first woman and first Black elected as Secretary of State
