I think you should just go to the parties over the summer and see which you like best.
You could ask the people you know about the groups, but as long as you know guys and are invited to the events, you can probably figure it out on your own better than anyone here.
In the bigger groups, there probably isn't just one type of guy. If you like a smaller group better, it's going to be because of the individuals you know in it, not the reputation.
