I wouldn't mind learning how to shoot a gun at the range, but I would never own one. My father is a police officer, so I grew up with a gun in my house. He always kept his locked up, though. I never really thought twice about it and sometimes I forgot he had it there. He did it keep it on him, in certain circumstance, for our protection. For everyone who does keep a gun in the house, is it really accessible enough to be of any use in a real emergency?

I don't think we'll be seeing any real debate about gun laws, despite recent events. That's really a shame, because there is no way that people with records of mental health issues should be allowed to buy a gun. I don't think you should be able to buy a gun without safety training, fingerprinting, etc. Sadly, a lot of state laws barely have any requirements at all.
