Phi-Tau Update
Friday night we initiated 8 new members, brining our total to 448. Over 20 alumni attended.
Saturday night we held our 25th anniversary banquet. Guests included the President of Shippensburg University, the campus Greek Advisor, over 60 alumni, 22 undergrads, plus 7 of the 8 NIBs, so 29. Dr. Edwin C. Gillman, Phi-Tau #1, was the keynote speaker. We also had two slide presentations featuring pictures of Phi-Tau through the years, and our MC read a letter we received from the former IHQ expansion director, relating what a thrilling experience it was for him, getting our chapter off the ground.
One of our alumni from the mid 80s talked about how things were when the chapter was getting started. "The other fraternities hated us. The sororities hated us. If someone from another greek organization saw Lambda Chi letters comming toward them, they'd go the other way."
Later an undergrad explained that things have changed on our campus. "The other fraternities still hate us," he said, "but the sororities love us." (Wild applause.)
After the dinner, we went to the house for a reception, which consisted of brothers socializing over beers around a fire in the back yard.
I dare say the weekend was enjoyed be everyone who attened.
