Actually, Tom, this is business. I will be closing my elder law practice in Tustin and striking out in an entirely new direction. I don't know anything about civil (French, Roman) law and that is used in a good portion of the world, incluing AFrica and Central and South America.
There is a degree known as a Master of Laws (LLM) which is an additional year following law school. usually in some arcane area like tax, it is really the only way to officially specialize other than to self-limit a practice. McGeorge has asked me if I'd like to do one in international development and I have decided to do that.
I spent 7 years as the African analyst for the Air Force at the Pentagon and there is a great deal of opportunity there. The six weeks in Africa is a way to get smart and shake hands and fill the Rollodex.
