COB Ideas
That is our biggest challenge as well. I have a few suggestions for that.
1. don't stand on your diag and flyer (since that makes you look desperate), but try to get approval to post a flyer on a bulletin board in each of the dorms.
2. create some sort of incentive or activity points reward for girls in your chapter who bring pnms over.
3. utilize facebook. not to the point that it is stalkerish. but if you find a nice girl who has similar interests to you, she might be perfect for your sisterhood. also, create facebook events.
4. approach girls in your classes. a lot of our recent new mems had not even thought about greek life and rush until i approached them about it.
5. ask your current pledge class to create a cob event and invite pnms as a new member project. often the younger girls know more freshmen. also, they tend to get into it more if they had a say in planning the event.
6. check with your OGL/Panhel to see if they will give you the list of names of girls who dropped fall rush. then invite some of these girls to cob, particularly if they are girls you really liked during rush.
as far as themes go, we like pajama parties (mems wear pjs, food is popcorn and goldfish, girls bring down pillows, blankets, stuffed animals to decorate). we've also done spa/mary kay parties, and chocolate parties (we have a chocolate fountain and we buy strawberries, pound cake, rice krispies, marshmallows, etc. and fondue). we did a winter wonderland party, hung jumbo stars and blue paper and had girls make gingerbread houses.
To keep it real simple, try to theme it around meals at your house. we've had girls over for italian night (lasagna and bosco sticks and italian ice), mexican night (taco bar), french night (crepes), or ice cream sundaes.
Or, as one of our Leadership Consultants suggested, invite them to some of your sisterhood events or (as you did) philanthropy; that way your chapter won't have to have separate COBs.
Best,
Kat
