Although Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. is the youngest sorority of the NPHC (founded in 1922), we are not without distinguished or famous members. The famous and distinguished member that I am probably most proud of because she broke through so many barriers and paved the way for Blacks in Hollywood and entertainment today, is Soror Hattie McDaniel. Hattie was the first African American to sing on network radio and the first African American ever to win an Oscar for her role as "Mammy" in the movie, Gone With The Wind.
Some other famous sorors more current are Victoria Rowell and Tonya Lee Williams (The Young and the Restless) and even more recent, Kelly Price (singer) and MC Lyte (rapper, actress). There are also many others including some Congresswomen, artists, talk show hosts, comedians, etc. For more, go to

Peace.
