ADPiZXalum didn't specify exactly where the chaper was except for in the "East" and there are schools, primarily in the Northeast, where recs are virtually unheard of. I have friends at schools in CT and NY where they'll only get two or three recs out of 500 PNMs, most of these were from legacies. I could see how that, if ADPi's lil sis's legacy connection were deceased that she wouldn't feel comfortable contacting an alumnae association for a rec. That could be looked at as "weird" at some schools, as in, "why is this random alum writing a rec for someone she doesn't personally know?" At a lot of northern schools, having a strong personal connection (friend, relative) for recommendations is highly emphasized.
