Then add in tremendous cultural diversity and economic importance, and you've got something, even with crime (which is of historical significance in LA) you have an awesome city. As a socialist myself, I find LA somewhat lacking in politics, but if you move down to San Fransisco, there you have a glorious city.

I love the snow, and the winter; I'm not terribly fond of tanning, and our accents trump hideous drawls any day. Keep the red states, though I find it ironic that they receive large amounts of tax-derived federal aid, and consistently have the most anti-tax politicians, at least when they speak publicly.

EDIT: New Orleans isn't a bad city. I just couldn't live there year-round.
