I didn't really know my Big before I decided to do Recruitment, even though we were in marching band together (she's a twirler, I play clarinet...the paths didn't really cross very much...). Then, I was kind of paired up to her at Open House, by coincidence. We were doing the typical small talk stuff...where I was from...what dorm I was living in...stuff like that. Then she asked me what my major is, and I told her it's Creative Writing. She got super excited because I was the first English major she had met all night (she's Language Arts Education, with a Creative Writing minor). She gave me a huge hug, and one of the sisters passed and said, "Wow. There's a lot of bonding going on over here." After that, when she'd see me in band, she'd sneak up behind me and tackle me or give me a big hug or something. When Big Night came around, and I found out she was my Big, I was so happy I almost started crying.

I've never had an older sister, because I'm the oldest of two, but Liz is like the older sister I never had. She watches out for me and if I have a problem, I always go to her first. When our marching band went to Italy on a trip last year during my New Member Period, just after Liz became my Big, I got sick on the bus on our way back from Amalfi (um...yeah...lots of turns, motion sickness was a given for most of us). Our band director actually had them stop the bus, so I could get off. My Big was the first person to help me. Once she realized it was me who was sick, she ran off the bus so fast it wasn't even funny...when our band director saw her coming, he let her take over the taking-care-of-me part. I love my Big to DEATH!

I've just become a Big, in the past couple weeks. I can only hope I'm as good a Big to my Little as my Big is to me.
