is absolutely correct...it IS your friends that have the issues.

When I got married, I did not "get" an engagement ring. I helped pay for our wedding bands. He was just out of school and was setting up his office. It didn't matter one iota to me, but SOME of my close friends had a hard time with it.

To this day, I STILL don't have a diamond on my hand but I have one by my side. However, for our 10th aniversary, he gave be the most beautiful emerald necklace surrounded by10 diamonds. I have since inherited my grandmother's diamond and my Hubby knows I won't pitch a fit if he doesn't lavish me with jewels.

You won't be able to change your friends' attitude and it can be hard when they say things like that. It can make YOU start questioning things that are really unimportant. Maybe you should turn the table and ask why it is so important to them.
