Matt, there's something in your post that takes me back nearly 35 years.

At the time of our chartering, one of the am classes made a big beautiful wood plaque with smaller plaques hanging down from it in honor of that occasion. It included large LXA letters and the date of our "instillation", among other things.

When the finished product was unveiled, the entire chapter stood admiring it and appauled. Suddenly one brother asked, "Isn't instillation spelled with an "a"?

Oh crap.

Maybe it had to do with distillation (from chem lab, of course)

I don't know if it was ever corrected, but to this day when I write that word my brain whispers "instaaaallation".
