It depends on what you're considering "long". "Metal hair", mullets, waist-length--no way. I REALLY like mops, shaggy dos, and what JAM called "soccer hair". Here is an example of an ideal guy cut...for me, at least:

I grew up in a military town, so I equate crew/buzz cuts with scary military fathers. (in reality, they probably weren't that scary, but definitely looked strict). All the nice, cuddly civilian fathers had longer hair.
