OK, if you have a scrapbooking store in town you would surely be able to find a cut-out (shape) in either your symbol or letters. A lot of times they are made of really cool materials and look fabuous. If you don't have a scrapbooking store try your local craft store, or even Walmart has some supplies like this.
Also, go to your local fabric/sewing store and ask one of the women there. They always help me come up with ideas, and they love to help the "young girls" get interested in sewing/crafts! Last year I made a beautiful satin banner and they were more than helpful. A lot of times they have an in-store seamstress, or one of the women who works there takes on outside projects. A lot of them do professional embroidery.
