IUPUI (sometimes pronounced Ooooh--eee--pooo--eee), is a joint venture between Indiana University and Purdue University, located in Indianapolis, so:
I--Indiana
U--University
P--Purdue
U--University
I--Indianapolis
IUPUI is its own university, but it shares the resources of both IU and Purdue (both of which are state-funded universities).
To add to the confusion, IU's school of Medicine (which is not at all affiliated with Purdue) is on the IUPUI campus.
