Back to the original question: mine was a Gamma Phi Beta - I knew ahead of time, just because she worked the Student Union info desk both freshman and sophomore year (I went through as a sophomore) and I would see her wearing her letters everywhere
I didn't say anything, and neither did another fellow sophomore PNM - who also worked in the Student Union with our Rho Chi!
